i have a new 3500 montana and looking for the do it yourselfer who has put a honda 3000i in the generator compartment?help!

Just from memory, my work trailer with a gen. set, concerns are heat shielding, exhaust, leakage of fumes inside, etc.

I would make sure you make the housing 100 percent sealed with venting outward with vented outer doors etc. Our work one is mounted on a rack that moves the set in and out of the compartment.

I was advised by a small engine repair shop not to mount portable generators inside compartment as there was nowhere near enough air flow and this would cause serious MELT-DOWN.
